(text-style:"bold")[CLUB PENGUIN ISLAND]
THE MEDIEVAL TEXT ADVENTURE
[[START GAME->Boardwalk]]
[[Choose your color->Color]](set: $job to 'a knight')
You are a knight! You've vowed to protect all of penguinkind from evil.
You carry a shiny sword called Dragonsbane, so honestly, you're kind of overpowered.
[[Enter the dungeon->Start]](set: $job to 'a wizard')
You are a wizard! You've read a lot of books and have a wand that sparkles.
(Hey, everybody's gotta start somewhere.)
[[Enter the dungeon->Start]](set: $job to 'a snowballer')
You are a snowballer! You're *very* good at throwing snowballs.
That's actually a really important skill around here.
[[Enter the dungeon->Start]](set: $job to 'an EPF Agent')
You are the EPF Agent who defeated Herbert and destroyed his iceberg base.
You're trained in the art of stealth by the spymaster, Dot. NBD.
[[Enter the dungeon->Start]](set: $job to 'a dancer')
You are a dancer! You've trained for years under your wise master, DJ Cadence.
Your feet are bruised but your spirit is strong.
[[Enter the dungeon->Start]]This is a text adventure, you don't need a penguin color.

[[But I want a color!->Color2]]But you can't even see your penguin.

You're just gonna have to trust me on this.
[[START GAME->Boardwalk]]It's a beautiful day at Beacon Boardwalk.
You bounce on the trampoline, alongside a dozen colorfully dressed penguins. Music blares from nearby speakers and fireworks can be heard in the distance.
With each jump you reach new heights. You can almost touch the clouds when a thunderous noise erupts—
(text-style:"rumble")[*KABOOOOOOM*]
You barely stick your landing as the ground shakes.
[[Investigate the sound->Investigate]]
[[RUN!!!->Run]]You rush towards the noise, leaping the steps to the Wish Squid fountain. A huge stone dragon head rises from the ground, sending a (text-style:"blur")[cloud of dust] into the air.
Nearby, a penguin wearing a ruffled lab coat and thick glasses coughs. It's Gary the Gadget Guy!

[["Gary! Am I on an episode of Extreme Landscaping?"->Gary4]]The ground (text-style:"rumble")[rumbles] again as you sprint off, twisting your way through a group of panicked penguins. Before leaving Beacon Boardwalk you stop and look back.
[[RUN!!!->Run2]]
[[Calm down and investigate the sound->Investigate]]You rush back to your igloo and dive into the safety of a wooden barrel.
...
You feel better. Things are simpler in the barrel.
It's dark but nice.
You stop worrying about the booming noises and the shaking ground. You feel so calm that you don't notice the shadow of a dragon overhead. It isn't until it inhales a massive breath, (text-colour:"green")[green fire] swirling around its jaw, that it catches your attention.
You run for Coconut Cove, yelling as loudly as you can: "SAVE ME JETPACK GUY!"

[[Return to Checkpoint->Boardwalk]]
[[Restart->Intro]]Gary uses his labcoat to rub the dust from his glasses.
"If my hypothesis is correct, it would seem I've awoken an ancient evil," he says, as he holds up a scepter. "This relic must have been locking it away. Until, er... I took it."

You walk home in a great mood, enjoying the shade provided by a large cloud moving very quickly. As you look up, you notice it's not a cloud at all, but a giant reptile with wings, teeth, and, worst of all, fiery breath spewing from its mouth.
You run as fast as you can, deciding that now would be an excellent time for a vacation.

[[Return to Checkpoint->Plan]]
[[Restart->Intro]]You step into a large room made of stone bricks. Torches of (text-colour:green)[green flame] glow bright along the wall.
Before you can move, a metal gate slams behind you, blocking any escape.
All around are blobs of slime, sleeping peacefully. A massive chandelier hangs above them.
There's an open door on the other side of the room.

By the way, the stone archway framed by creepy (text-colour:green)[green flames] is still in front of you.
[[Enter the room->Room1]]You're dissappointed to discover you haven't developed superpowers. The solid steel won't budge.

"Even a map or compass would do," you say.
There's no reply, except for the loud gurgling of ooze as they hop closer and closer. There's no way they're letting you reach the next room.

Holding the scepter out, you dive for the pedestal. It clicks into place as Scorn makes a final, desperate lunge. His massive jaw speeds at you, about to clamp down!
Then, he stops, stiff as a statue. You take a step back to see the great dragon turned into a magnificent stone sculpture, rising from the pool of slime.
YOU HAVE DEFEATED SCORN THE DRAGON KING!!!
You hear the sound of metal gates lifting.
[[Leave the dungeon->KnightExit]]Your wand sparkles as you stand, rushing forward.
Scorn cackles as he moves his head in front of you.
"And just what are you going to do with that little wooden stick?"
You hold out your wand and—
*PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW*
"My EYES!" growls Scorn, as he whips his head back.
With Scorn dazed, you sprint to the pedestal. The scepter clicks into place as Scorn recovers, making a final, desperate lunge. His massive jaw speeds at you, about to clamp down!

YOU HAVE DEFEATED SCORN THE DRAGON KING!!!
You hear the sound of metal gates lifting.
[[Leave the dungeon->WizardExit]]Scorn lunges for you, his mouth wide open. He swallows everything up, dirt and rock included.
"You missed me," says your voice.
Scorn darts his head around, looking for the source of the sound.
"Over here!"
Scorn looks to the cliffs above, but sees nothing.
"No, over here!"
Scorn looks to the rocky shore but, snarling with rage, can't find you.
Only when you click the scepter into place does Scorn turn to see you. He makes a final, desperate lunge. His massive jaw speeds at you, about to clamp down!

[[Leave the dungeon->EPFExit]]You flip over a blast of (text-colour:"green")[green flame]. Landing perfectly, you grip a snowball, reaching back and charging up.
Scorn inhales.
You hold your aim, gripping the snowball tighter.
Scorn opens his jaw.
You hold. A strange rainbow energy swirls around the snowball.
Scorn blows forth a (text-colour:"green")[giant green fireball].
You throw the snowball, unleashing a massive burst of rainbow color. It passes through the fireball, extinguishing it, and continues on at incredible speed.
Before Scorn can react, the snowball strikes him in a burst of (text-colour:"red")[r](text-colour:"orange")[a](text-colour:"yellow")[i](text-colour:"green")[n](text-colour:"blue")[b](text-colour:"navy")[o](text-colour:"purple")[w]. He falls back, dazed.

[[Leave the dungeon->SnowballerExit]]You take your CPI Phone, scroll through its playlist and tap on EPIC ISLAND. You jump up as the beat drops, flipping over a (text-colour:"green")[green fireball].
Scorn darts his head at you, mouth wide open. Moving to the music, you shimmy to the side and jump away at the last minute, doing a flipper-stand.
Swinging with the beat, you loop through the air, over a (text-colour:"green")[wall of green flame], and you land next to the pedestal. The scepter clicks into place as Scorn makes a final, desperate lunge. His massive jaw speeds at you, about to clamp down!
Then, he stops, stiff as a statue. You take a step back to see the great dragon turned into a magnificent stone sculpture, rising from the pool of slime.
You strike a pose, holding your flippers up.
"Check it!"

[[Leave the dungeon->DancerExit]]"I can do this," you say, as you rise to your feet. "I can run away like no penguin ever has!"
You sprint at an incredible speed, sliding and flipping over (text-colour:"green")[fireballs]. Turning a corner, you find a small cave and dive in. Outside, you can hear Scorn growling and snorting in frustration, but, after a few minutes, he gives up looking and leaves.
Safe in the cave, you draw up the last part of your plan: Wait for Jet Pack Guy to show up and be the hero.
You find a cozy spot in the corner and take a nap.

[[Return to Checkpoint->FinalCall]]
[[Restart->Intro]]You sprint forward, ducking your head low and pointing a shoulder forward. With a mighty *SCHLUUUUP* you run straight into a blob of slime.
You stick into the gooey mess as the owner stares at you with disapproving eyes. You suddenly fly backwards, in what can only be described as the slime spitting you out.
Dozens of blobs wake, glaring at you with glowing eyes. They bounce forward, surrounding you, ooze bubbling and gurgling. There's no way they're letting you reach the next room.

[[Restart->Intro]]You charge forward, rolling under a flurry of (text-colour:"green")[fireballs]. As Scorn bats a wing at you, you swipe with the wooden club. The weapon's heavy and causes you to stumble. Scorn takes advantage of the moment, striking with his other wing.
(text-style:"rumble")[*THUD*]
With a cackle, he scoops you up and tosses you into the prison cell.
You sit there, soaked in slime, in no shape to save the island from ancient evil.
Surely, Aunt Arctic will send Jet Pack Guy on a rescue mission, but, until then, you'll just have to sit in your prison cell and wait.

With Rory's help, you build a fortress near Coconut Cove. The best and brightest penguins train under you, becoming knights themselves, vowing to protect all of penguinkind from evil. The group becomes known as THE COCONUT GUARDS.
At night, around the fire, they tell stories of their brave knight-commander who saved the island from a fiery, ancient dragon named Scorn.

You disappear one morning without a trace, and, over time, your story becomes the stuff of legends. Those who saw you emerge from the dungeon swear that the tales are true, but others think of it as a fairytale.
Then, one day, you return.
Under a hooded cloak, you sail up on a small raft. Aunt Arctic waits on the shore.
"It is good to see you, friend," she says. "Are you ready to be the island's greatest defender?"
You nod, showing Aunt Arctic what you've learned. Fire, water, earth, and wind float and swirl around your flipper.
"Very good. This is for you then," she says, as she holds out the Island Codex.

You've experienced so many adventures. Defeated Herbert. Stopped Shellbeard. Yet your quest against Scorn is what the EPF recruits always want to hear.
You train them to the best of your ability, using the knowledge you've learned from your friends—Dot, Aunt Arctic, Rookie, and Jet Pack Guy.
One afternoon, Aunt Arctic comes to you.
"I have a great task for you," she says. "A greater challenge than you've ever faced."
Aunt Arctic holds the Island Codex out to you.
"I know you're the right person for the job... Director."

You wake up, stepping out from your shack on Mount Blizzard. You're greeted by the cold mountain air.
"Ready to get to work?" asks Rookie.
The scent of pine trees and hot cocoa floats in the air. Excited tubers can be heard in the distance. Maybe the best part is what you can't hear: no rumbling of dungeon doors, no cackling of ancient dragons.
It's peaceful. It's cold. It's exactly how you want it.
You look over to Rookie and smile.
"Ready, pal."
